FIRE TEAMS INTENSIFY TRAINING TOWARDS SESSA GAMES

The various sports disciplines of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have intensified training activities towards the pending edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) games which will be hosted by the Service.

Despite the postponement of the games the Football team manager of the GNFS believes” if the games were to start tomorrow his team will win gold”.

DOII Osei Owusu made this statement during a friendly match between a premier league side, Liberty Professionals and the Ghana National Fire Service male football team at the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) football park in James Town, Accra.

The match which was described by both Fire and Liberty coaches as highly tactical and disciplined recorded the only goal at the 15th minute by Richard Yankson of the GNFS team. Both teams created many chances but could not convert them into goals. Liberty Professionals were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute of the game but was denied by the Fire Service goalkeeper Kadri. The Liberty Professionals toiled but could not equalize and that brought the score lines to 1- 0 in favor of the Firemen.

The Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Sports of the Service DOIII Akpoh after the match revealed that “The Service is hoping to be represented in disciplines like Table tennis, Basketball, Hockey, Handball, Football, Athletics, Volley ball and Tag of war. He further stated that “Currently Volley ball female team is 2nd on the league table whiles their male colleagues are fourth. Handball male team is 2nd and their females are 5th whiles with Basketball the male are 4th and the females are 5th position as the league table stands now” he revealed.
