MOTORWAY TOLL BOOTH FIRE STATION COMMISSIONED

A Fire Station has been commissioned at the Tema motor way which is widely known for accidents and has claimed the lives of hundreds of people gets a new fire station for quick response to road accidents and other emergency situations. The new fire station which was fully funded and handed over to the Ghana National Fire Service by a businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Abdul Rahim Haruna the CEO of D.B Company Limited a was commissioned on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018.

In a speech read on behalf of the acting Chief Fire Officer, Edwin Ekow Blankson by the Director of Operations Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Kweku Manu Afful commended Alhaji Haruna for his foresight and single handedly funding the construction of the station. DCFO Afful  revealed that “the location of this fire station is very strategic; in that, the motorway stretch has unfortunately been noted for a lot of accidents and a timeous response to these incidents can make a difference between saving or losing a life” he stated.

 He further revealed that “Management of the Fire Service, as part of its strategic expansion policy captures the opening of new well equipped Fire Stations in all districts in the Country. This policy is to position the Fire Service to provide safety cover for Government’s One District One Factory Projects and to boost investor confidence in the private sector” he said. DCFO Afful used the occasion to congratulate the Tema Regional Command for facilitating the opening of the one hundred and ninety eighth fire station (198th) station in the country. 

The Tema Regional Commander Fire ACFO Fransces Rockson in her welcome address expressed her gratitude to the private developer for bringing the facility closer to the people around the motor way.

“This modern facility is purposely facilitate quick extrication of victims of road crashes on the motor way and also the station will provide fire cover for many nearby communities that previously had to rely on Tema Metro and Ashiaman fire station respectively in times emergency”

ACFO Rockson further revealed that in order to boost the morale of hard working personnel of the region, the Tema Regional Command instituted an award scheme whereby some selected drivers and fire fighters were awarded for their selfless services. She also called on the personnel under her Command to continue with their professional rescue techniques and quality firefighting to the public because plans are under way to extend the award to the best firefighter in the region.

Alhaji Abdul Rahim Haruna the CEO of D. B Company Ghana Limited in his remark was happy he has been able to give a little back to society.

He made a pledge “I shall continue to help the Fire Service and other security services in any way that I can so society could also benefit” he said. He further called on other developers to help the Fire Service to meet some of their developmental needs in whatever way they can.

Also in attendance was Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Koto, the Presiding Member for Tema Metropolitan Assembly as well as Nii Adjei Kraku, the Paramount Chief of Tema.
