Accountable to the Chief Fire Officer in the following aspects:
a. Formulation of policy guidelines regarding the combat and management of Rural Fires and Wild Fires;
b. Ensure implementation of directives and policies formulated on bushfires and wildfires;
c. Setting yearly targets and objectives for his Department, and drawing up a yearly Plan of Action with a copy sent to the office of the Chief Fire Officer for CFO’s Guidelines, and to be monitored by the Research, Development and Monitoring Department;
d. Keep accurate records on bushfires, send Quarterly and Annual Reports to the Chief Fire Officer;
e. See to the training of Fire Volunteers, as well as the training of personnel under his/her command;
f. Liaise with other stakeholder institutions - such as NADMO, Food and Agric. Ministry, Local Government and Development Ministry, Land and Forestry, in carrying out some activities which will help in the realization of effective management for bushfire control;
g. Co-ordinate the organization for Annual Bushfire Prevention Campaigns;
h. Collaborate with the Head of Public Relations in carrying out mass public education campaign on bushfires through the print and electronic media;
i. Ensure an effective supervision and monitoring of performance of personnel under his division - Planning Division, Records and Monitoring Division, and Programmes Division which handles community Education and Volunteer Training;

DIVISIONS UNDER RURAL FIRE DEPARTMENT

i. PLANNING DIVISION - OIC
Answerable to the Head of Rural Fires
a. Handle the planning needs of the Rural Fires Department;
b. Formulate policies and implement guidelines which shall be subject to the consideration of the Head of Department;
c. Collaborate with the 2ic in achieving targets and desirable results;
d. See to the effective supervision and training of personnel under him;

ii. RECORDS AND MONITORING DIVISION - OIC
Responsible to the Head of Rural Fires
a. handle up-to-date records on bushfires, liaise with Lands and Forestry Department and other bodies for records on bushfire occurrence, acreage destroyed, estimated cost of damage, other relevant information, to be made available to the Head for onward transmission to the National Headquarters for intended purposes;
b. Institute and carry out effective monitoring system on community education and volunteer training, and on issues relating to the sustenance and motivation for volunteers;
c. Liaise with the Officer-in-charge - Planning Division for planning and effective handling of the division;

iii. PROGRAMMES DIVISION - OIC
Accountable to the Head of Rural Fires:
a. Liaise with the Officer-in-charge - Planning in formulating Plan of Action and Outreach Programmes for the division;
b. See to the effective supervision, performance appraisal and training needs of his subordinates;
c. Keep record on activities with reports sent to the Head of Rural Fires;
d. Work within the principles of community development by collaborating effectively with the District Assemblies, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, corporate bodies, and other governmental agencies at the community level in carrying educational and outreach programmes to help manage and control bushfires;
e. Carry out any other duty assigned to him/her by the Head of Department;
