Profile of Richard Gibril Nuhu
DCFO Richard Gibril Nuhu is the current Greater Accra Regional Commander. He is a product of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC) Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC). He has over 33 years' experience in the Ghana National Fire Service as at 2022.
He joined the service in 1989 as a Sub Officer and has risen through the ranks to Deputy Chief Fire Officer.
He has served in many capacities in the service including;
The First Regional Commander Oti Region, Deputy Regional Commander Volta Region, Metro Commander Ho, Volta Region, Operations Officer, Volta Region, District fire Officer University of Cape Coast Fire Station, Regional Administration Officer Central Region Cape Coast, Duty officer Metro Fire Station Cape Coast, Administrative Officer Metro Fire Station, Cape Coast.
The following are some of his accomplishments as he rose through the ranks. He was the only GNFS representative, and the team leader of twelve participants in Japan on the JAICA program. He transformed the University of Cape Coast Fire Station by initiating and ensuring the construction of appliance bay, the rebuilding of the administration block, office annex of the University Fire Station, developed strategic plan, fire code and profile for the Fire Station. Initiated and supervised the expansion of the Municipal Fire Station, Dambai to accommodate the Regional Headquarters Management. DCFO Richard Gibril Nuhu acquired two parcels of land for future developments as the Regional and Municipal Head Offices respectively in Dambai the capital of Oti Region.
He was a key member of the then Volta Regional Commander (DCFO Daniella Mawusi Sarpong's) team that established 10 fire stations within one (1) year increasing fire cover of the Volta Region to over 90%.
He initiated a very strict maintenance culture to bring back most broken-down appliances and vehicles on road to ensure rapid response to emergencies in the Accra Region and is able to sustain the culture to enhance the cooperate image of the service in the Region.
Has ensured structural transformation at the Regional Headquarters including the fence wall project, office annex and refurbishing of the conference hall and the main office block.
He initiated and ensured the relocation of the Castle Fire Station to a new office accommodation.
Initiated fire safety interventions resulting in a vibrant fire safety activities that contributed to his winning the coveted Fire Safety Ambassador Award 2022 from OSHA UK.
Educational Background
1. A member in good standing of the athletic team of the Apam Secondary School Central Region; 400 meters to marathon events.
2) An unbeaten record holder of 800meters with the time 1 minute 59 seconds at Apam Secondary School which was not broken until it was set aside after 20 years; (1987-2007) by the School Authorities.
3) A middle-distance/marathon runner of the Ghana National Fire Service from 1989-1992.
Work Experience
Always steadfast in his commitment and dedication to duty. He had nurtured and mentored many personnel across the country who have become assets to the country and the service. He is s devoted Muslim, has embarked on a successful self-sponsored pilgrimage to mecca that earned him the title ALHAJI. He is a husband, a father and an illustrious community leader in Cape Coast.
