Ranks & Organizational Structure
The Ghana National Fire Service operates a centralized administration with a clear rank structure and a well-defined organizational hierarchy. This ensures effective command, control, and communication across all levels of the Service.
Organizational Structure
The Service runs a Centralised Administration with a National Headquarters in Accra and seventeen (17) Service Administrative Regions in all the Political Regions of Ghana. Tema Region makes up the Seventeenth Region. Each Fire Service Region has Metropolitan, Municipal and District Fire Stations as well as Fire Posts.
The Service also has a Training Institution, the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS), located at James Town in Accra.
To ensure effective and efficient management, the following Directorates have been created in line with the Service’s Act (Act 537):

Other Directorates may be created in line with Act 537 as deemed beneficial to the efficient running of the Service.

                            Responsibilities & Hierarchy
- Chief Fire Officer (CFO): Chief Executive Officer of the Service, supported by key Directors (mostly DCFOs).
 - DCFO, ACFO: Responsible for policy formulation and strategic direction.
 - DO I, DO II, DO III: Implement policies and manage daily administration at all levels.
 - ADO I, ADO II: Oversee operations, training, and discipline of junior officers; may act on behalf of superior officers.
 - Regional Fire Officers (RFOs): Usually ACFOI or ACFOII, head the regional commands.
 - Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Fire Officers: Usually DO I/II/III, manage local stations and posts.
 - Officers-in-Charge of Fire Posts/Watches/Sections: Often ADO I/II, manage teams at the station level.
